Dovahkiin Gutenberg v1.1
Hello fans! I am humbly amazed how many people are still coming to the site and dropping kind words on the project. It seems people are still discovering the awesomeness that is Skyrim on a daily basis. Unsurprisingly, I’ve still not heard a peep from Bethesda on if they appreciate what I am doing or not, so I guess I will continue with my plans of world domination, err, I mean, Tamrielic Chronicling. In the upcoming weeks, I’d like to release Books of Oblivion and Books of Morrowind, but for now, enjoy a quick update to the Books of Skyrim.
Here are today’s updates:
- New cover! Credit goes to Aladario, the cover on the Spanish version was too good not to use.
- Original images from the books are now included. I made a design decision to not include the decorative calligraphy for first letters in a paragraph. It made it harder to read, and just did not look good in a digital format. The updated books are:
- The Firmament
- Harvesting Frostbite Spider Venom
- Herbalist’s Guide to Skyrim
- Kolb & The Dragon
- Shadowmarks
- Songs of Pelinal Volume 7
- Surviving A Horker Attack
- Troll Slaying
- The Alduin/Akatosh Dichotomy has been moved out of the Books of 2920 section. (Despite the game’s copy saying it was a Book of 2920).
- The book A Minor Maze has been added.
So without further adeiu, here are your links:

[...] Update 2: By popular demand, I’ve added images and cleaned up a few details. Click here for my post about it! [...]
I just discovered your site yesterday and was blown away to have all the lore of Skyrim in a single file. I was afraid that you had maybe forgotten about updating it, since the original post was around two months ago, or weren’t going to move forward until you heard back from Bethesda, even if they never contacted you back. Now here I am a day later and you’ve released an update; I have impeccable timing!
I currently don’t have my copy of Skyrim yet, I’ve ordered it and can’t wait for it to be delivered, but having played Oblivion and Morrowind I know the lore in Skyrim will be just as amazing. I’m restraining myself from starting to read it until I’ve at least played the game and gotten into the world a bit.
I can’t wait until you release something for the previous games, I’ll have to keep checking back. Thanks a ton for this release!
Now all we need to do is pool our resources and get them narrated by Leonard Nimoy!
Thanks for the kind words! Man, Nimoy does need to be in the next Elder Scrolls game.
I opened this page on my iPhone, tapped the EPUB version and then the given option of Open in “iBooks” which works except the pictures come up as the blue box with a ? in it. Am I doing something wrong?
No, you are not. I’m still trying to figure out why some pictures do not work properly in iBooks. It works fine in other devices.
THIS IS AMAZING.
You, sir, are my hero right now. Prolly going to print them and make some sort of decorative leather-bound “talk peace” like some guy did with Oblivion.
You should totally do the books of Morrowind as well… I used to sit and read them (in game) and just drool at the world they’d bring me into
Again, YOU ARE AWESOME!! THANKS!!!
And another problem is that there are two empty bookmarks in Remanada (both for Chapter 2), though do not know why.
Cao and Darqon,
Thanks for pointing these issues out to me! They are fixed now, so if you want you can redownload and get the latest copy.
Thanks a lot! Much closer to perfection~ ^_^
Still some spelling mistakes, I’ll collect them.
Actually, if there are spelling mistakes, they would have also been in the original version, so I’m inclined to keep them there. In fact, most of the misspellings are intentional, and show that the fictional person in Tamriel that wrote it might not have been educated.
Excellent work, thanks so much…
Words cannot properly express my gratitude! I’ve always loved the TES lore, so actually being able to have a bit of it with me at all times is just about the best thing ever. It must’ve taken quite a bit of time to sort through it all and organise it, so thank you!
Books of Morrowind would be absolutely amazing as well, I got way too excited when I read that.
Thank you very much!
Thanks for putting this together. I’m buying my son a Kindle shortly and he loves fantasy stories.
Thank You so much! I’m waiting for Books of Oblivion/Morrowind. Thank you very much!!
Somehow I feel you need to combine the Woodcutter’s Wife and the Cabin stories – the latter is the sequel (volume 2) after all…
By combine, I mean put them next to each other, of course.
*ado
Fantastic! Thanks so much! BTW you know it’s “further ado” right
Thank you very much! im gonna print this.. and if you have free time please make elderscroll encyclopedia.. i’ll pay you
can you make a pdf version of this? i wanna print this out.. thank you for your hardwork
I can’t wait for the oblivion and morrowind book release
Did you include these in the update since they were missing in the first release?
* Night of Tears
* Chimarvamidium: Ancient Tales of the Dwemer Pt. VI
* Mixed Unit Tactics in the Five Years War Vol.1
* Velehk Sain – Pirate King of the Abecean
Also, how about adding in the various journals from NPC characters, like the four parts of Arondil’s books? There a many others as well. Kodlak’s journal is quite interesting. You would have to change the player’s name in it to Dragonborn though.
Never mind about the “Chimarvamidium”, just noticed in the new version that you have it under “Ancient Tales of the Dwemer”, but the other tomes are still missing.
please make a PDF version! thank you!
Thanks a lot, looks really nice and it’s almost complete.
I rarely post comments using my mobile, but this deserves it. Thank you again.
Found some more missing books. They are:
* Aevar Stone-Singer
* The Thirty-Six Lessons of Vivec, Sermon Two and Eighteen
* House of Troubles – Chronicle of the Daedra Who Decided Not To Submit to the Tribunal.
Please update the Kindle Fire version with these and the previous books I mentioned. Thanks.
Thank you for these books!!! I just downloaded them to my IPad, now I have some great reading during lunch break…. Have you considered doing the same for Oblivion, and Morrowind? I would purchase those in a heart beat.
thanks! i have been playing skyrim since december and still halfway through until now as i have been taking my sweet time exploring and reading its books. thanks for compiling these. now i can read them from my nook before going to bed. i love their short stories!
Hey Capaneus, are you ever going to update the set with the missing books? Would be great to finally have them all.
Thanks for this.
I can confirm that pictures work in iBooks now.
I’d like to also join the request for the missing materials … Journals and such.
I’d also like to make a suggestion … It would be nice if the books somehow indicated if they were skill books or essential to quests. You might even consider posting the locations a book can be found.
Even if you never update again, this will be a boon to my Skyrim experience, as I’ll be able to actually read many more of the books now, than if i had to read them at my PS3.
Thanks again.
Hey guys, sorry I have fallen off the face of the earth. There is just a ton of things going on in both my personal life and my work life that have monopolized my time. I have to give myself reasonable goals, but I plan to put out a new version by the end of the month.
The new version will include all of the missing books as well as a section for journals of skyrim. It should be a pretty massive collection.
Hello, i’ve began the same work in my french localized version of skyrim (it’s “Bordeciel” in french;-) ).
Once i found your blog, i tried to integrate it in an ebook as you did but it seems i’m not so good with Calibre. Would you like help me to unfucked-up my temporary version? I’ve already done about 200 books by replacing each content of each html file and actualizing the two XML conf files.
If you have a few minutes, i’d like you send me a short procedure or a tool’s name i forgot to do the same you did.
Thank you mister capaneus /(-_-)\, you’ve brigthen me \(°o°)/
Great to finally hear from you, Capaneus, and that’s definitely good news on the improved edition. Not sure if you know about them, but I found these were missing as well:
* Antecedents of Dwemer Law
* The Affairs of Wizards
* Nerevar at Red Mountain
In case you didn’t know, Capaneus, there are two more missing books I just discovered today. They were hidden behind the counter in Sadri’s Used Wares in Windhelm. The books are:
* Grasphing Fortune
* The True Noble’s Code
Sorry, I meant “Grasping Fortune”
Forget those last two books. They must have been added from a mod I have loaded and are not written very well.
Hello. I’m physically disabled and can sit at my computer only so long. I was bumming out about not reading the books in Oblivion and determined to do so in Skyrim. But this meant I’d have to choose between reading and playing.
Now I can happily adventure all I want, pausing briefly to open each book just in case of goodies. And I can be in bed with my Kindle and dive back into Skyrim in perfect comfort.
I have written about accessibility in games, and I assure you that this is something that can benefit gamers with all kinds of disabilities. I’d encourage you to mention that point when/if you have that chat with Bethesda.
Thank you so much for doing this! It’s just terrific.
